About
Health and Eyewear for the Rest of Us
During my first major internship as an Optometry student, I had a patient who conistently slept in her contacts without hesitance. How many of us have done that? A lot. And it is the bane of every Optometry student's existence. She knew she wasn't supposed to sleep in them, but she didn't know why. After explaining to her all the processes and risks that go along with it, she then thanked me graciously and told me out of the 15 years she had been wearing contact lenses, no Doctor had ever explained to her the why. After that exam, my first thought was a frustrating one, "What is wrong with these Doctors. Don't they know patients need to understand!" Before long it hit me, as a student I have the luxury of time. I have the luxury of being able to lead these discussions because I'm not pressured to see a patient every 15 minutes or else my practice may fail. Thus the purpose behind SIGHT. I know I won't be able to explain as much as I would like forever, so I am developing this website in the hopes bettering public health.
